After 2 years successful running of the festival, ACIO is proud to announce the Australian Film Festival to be held again at Leofoo Cinemax from 1st to 7th of October this year. Eleven great Australian films have been specially selected to be shared with Taiwanese fans.

Many Taiwanese people have said to me that Australian films are great, but the chances of seeing it in Taiwan are limited. This is the major reason for us to organize this festival.

Australian film-makers and performers are increasingly becoming well-known internationally these days. Many of them have carved out film careers for themselves in Australia and abroad, and many have also won international film awards. This is not only because Australia’s world-class film institutes which educate many film professionals, also because of our cut-edge production environment and superior post-production skills.

There has also been an upsurge in Australian feature films devoted to Indigenous themes and characters. Among the most successful was Phillip Noyce’s “Rabbit-Proof Fence”, adapted from Doris Pilkington Garimara’s book about her mother’s experiences as a member of the ‘stolen generation’—Aboriginal children who were forcibly removed from their families to be assimilated into ‘white’ society during the 20th century. You will soon be enjoying this touching piece at the premiere after this reception.

I would like to thank the Taipei Cultural Bureau for the support of our event. I also would like to thank Leofoo Cineplex, McWilliam Wines, Chung-Hwa Telecom, Eva Air, Eslite Bookstore, Westin Hotel, Leofoo Hotel, and Mr. Cheese’s support to us. Without them we would not be able to have this grate festival here today.

I hope through these films, you will gain a better understanding of Australian life style, scenery, cultural environment, and this lovely multicultural society, and most importantly - Australia’s position in the world of film production, performances, and film studies. And, I hope that through today’s event, we will see the cultural ties between Australia and Taiwan, especially in the area of film become even stronger.
Thank you all for coming to this opening reception and the premiere.
現在,我要邀請各位貴賓,讓我們一同舉杯預祝-澳洲電影節,圓滿成功,Cheers!

謝謝大家! Hope you will all enjoy tonight’s movie “Rabbit Proof Fence” and our Australian Film Festival.
