Damien Beaumont
Mr Beaumont, Ladies and Gentlemen,
I would like to welcome you all to our third Boomerang Luncheon. I’m sure you are wondering - What is a Boomerang Luncheon?
We started the Boomerang Luncheons 3 years ago to take advantage of the opportunity presented by visitors from Australia to project a broader image of Australia here in Taiwan and so contribute towards a better understanding of Australia. For instance, how many of you know that Australia is home to some of the world’s best classical orchestras? The Australian Brandenburg Orchestra for example, has been rated as the best period instrument orchestra in the world. I’m sure Mr Beaumont will give us more insights on this and other examples later.
Which brings me to an introduction of our speaker for today, Mr Damien Beaumont, who presents the weekday evening shows on Australia’s classical music radio station, ABC Classic FM, where he brings New Releases and Australian and overseas concerts from the full range of classical music, to nationwide listeners in Australia.
Mr Beaumont studied music, majoring in vocal studies, at the Adelaide Conservatorium of Music. He was then invited to study in London, where he encountered many world renowned musicians. Upon returning to Australia, he joined ABC Classic FM as the Marketing Manager, but was soon invited to become a presenter.
Mr Beaumont has been invited by our office, to co-host “Australian Concert Hall series” with Juliana Tzeng of Philharmonic Radio Taipei I encourage you all – and I’m sure Ms Edith Kuo from Philharmonic Radio Taipei will agree with me on this - to tune in to Damien and Juilana’s co-hosted program from 11am -12pm every Sunday, starting from May 22.
I would like to thank the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and Philharmonic Radio Taipei for their support of our initiative - without it we would not be able to have Mr Beaumont here today.
I hope through today’s talk, you will gain a better understanding of Australia’s position in the world of fine music. And, I hope that through events such as today’s, we will see the cultural ties between Australia and Taiwan, especially in the area of music become even stronger.
Ladies and gentlemen - Please join me to give a warm welcome to ABC Classic FM presenter - Damien Beaumont to bring us insights on “Classical Music of Australia”.
