Important ETA update: Taiwan ordinary passport holders can now apply using the AustralianETA smartphone app
21 February 2022
Monday 21 February 2022 marks some important changes for those wishing to visit Australia:
- Australia’s borders are reopening to fully vaccinated visa holders
- applications for Australia’s Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) will become available exclusively through the AustralianETA smartphone app
- holders of Taiwan ordinary passports will now be eligible to apply using the AustralianETA app
This streamlined process will make it easier and faster than ever before for Taiwan passport holders to apply for an ETA to visit Australia.
In-built industry functionality within the AustralianETA smartphone app will allow industry representatives to provide in-person support to individuals with their ETA application (i.e. travel agents will still be able to help their customers using the ETA app). The old ETA industry and web channels for ETA applications will remain suspended at this time.
In addition to holding a visa (which includes an ETA), all travellers must meet Australia’s border entry requirements. Go to https://covid19.homeaffairs.gov.au/coming-australia for details.

Australia supports Taiwan’s involvement in the World Health Organization’s work and Taiwan’s participation as an observer at the World Health Assembly
14 May 2020
As COVID-19 has shown so starkly, a global pandemic requires a global response. This includes cooperation and information flows among all relevant health authorities. Taiwan has demonstrated a first-rate health system response and has valuable expertise to share. Australia supports Taiwan’s involvement in the World Health Organization’s work and Taiwan’s participation as an observer at the World Health Assembly. There has never been a better time, nor a greater need, to work with all relevant partners to beat COVID-19 and respond to global health issues. Health for all.
