Taiwan’s U-Theatre to perform at Oz Asia Festival from 13-14 September

Taiwan’s U-Theatre will make its Australian premiere at the OzAsia Festival performing “Meeting with Bodhisattva”, a work inspired by the Tibetan Buddhist God of Wisdom . First performed in 2002 at Taipei National Theatre, Meeting With Bodhisattva has been performed around the world, including in Hong Kong, Shanghai, the U.S., France and Belgium.

Meeting with Bodhisattva uses a technique of striking drums with long sticks, which represents both the main feature of the work and a unique drumming style developed by U-Theatre . Surrounded by Buddhist mantras, on a stage steeped in an atmosphere of, and draped in the reddish hues of Tibetan Buddhism, the performers convey a positive force to the audience through agile body movements and a precise and rhythmic paces, combining martial arts, drumming, theater, dance and music into a ‘total theater’.
