“The Idea of North” is a quartet of Australian musicians including soprano Sally Cameron, alto Naomi Crellin, tenor Nick Begbie, and bass Andrew Piper, all of whom graduated from Canberra School of Music at the Australian National University. They have a beautifully distinct sound and style, but they cross many musical genres: jazz, folk, gospel, pop, classical, and comedy. They have worked with many top jazz musicians, including James Morrison and Don Burrows, and produced many award winning recordings. Their 2010 release, a collaboration with James Morrison, won the 2010 ARIA award (Australian Recording Industry Association) for “Best Jazz Album”, and their new album “Smile” again won 2013 ARIA award “Best Jazz Album”.
“The Idea of North” was invited to perform for Taipei International Choral Festival in 2008, and is returning to Taiwan for Taipei Summer Jazz Festival performing at 7:30pm on (Fri) 8 Aug at the Main Plaza of National Theatre & Concert Hall in Taipei ( free outdoor performance).
