2007 ANZCham Business Excellence Awards Winners
The 3rd Annual Australian and New Zealand Chamber of Commerce (ANZCham) Business Excellence Awards were presented at a gala dinner held at the Far Eastern Plaza Hotel in Taipei on Friday 26 October. The Awards are designed to recognise those Australian, New Zealand, Queensland and Taiwanese companies that have made a significant contribution to the bilateral business relationships between Taiwan and Australia, Taiwan and Queensland, and Taiwan and New Zealand.
Winners of the 2007 ANZCham Business Awards were presented with their Awards by Vice Minister for Economic Affairs, Mr Hsieh Fadah. The winners of all 6 Award categories announced were:
Thales Australia: The ANZCham Australia Taiwan Business Excellence Award
Thales ATM Pty Ltd is an internationally renowned defence and electronics group with 60,000 employees worldwide in 50 countries. Thales Australia, with 3500 employees and annual revenues of $900 million, is divided into six business groups. Thales has a strong capability both financially and technologically. This is achieved through innovation with substantial research and development programmes as well as access to the network of export opportunities. This strategy has already been highlighted by Thales with its significant success in winning the public tender with the Taiwan CAA (Air Navigation and Weather Services) for a suite of Air Traffic Control Systems which will be the primary tool used for landing and take-off of aircraft across all airports in Taiwan.
Rakon Limited: The ANZCham New Zealand Taiwan Business Excellence Award
Rakon is an Auckland, New Zealand based company and is a global leading supplier of crystals and oscillators. The company’s precision quartz products are used in applications such as GPS, telecommunications network timing and aerospace markets. It is estimated that more than 50% of the global GPS market comes from Rakon. Taiwan is the global leader for manufacturing GPS related products with the GPS industry worth NT$96.4 billion in Taiwan in 2006. The expectation is that there will be a further 20% growth in 2007 making this one of Rakon’s most important regions.
Rakon established its regional office for the East Asia region in Taipei in 2005 and now has an engineering support office and a total of 6 staff. Rakon Taiwan supplies products to all of Taiwan’s leading high-tech companies. This award recognises the significant growth that Rakon has achieved in the region and the strong contribution that this growth is making to the New Zealand export sector.
Newton Educational Service & Tour: The ANZCham Queensland Taiwan Business Excellence Award
Newton Educational Service & Tour consultant Pty. Ltd (NEST) was founded in 1996, Queensland, Australia by Taiwanese migrants. Since then NEST has provided thousands of students professional services in study abroad consultation, study pathway planning and homestay coordination and lauded by industry and students.
In 2001, NEST was appointed by Educational Queensland International (EQI) as an official authorized agent to promote EQI program internationally in developing educational and cultural exchanges to enrich students’ experiences and broaden their global vision. Till now NEST has organized 70 study groups and over 1800 Taiwanese students studying in Queensland government schools. Further more, NEST has assisted more than 10 schools cross cultural visiting and signed sister or friendship school agreements. Upcoming exciting event will be the first study tour group from Australian school visiting Taipei Municipal Wenhua Elementary school in March 2008.
Due to outstanding performance in contribution for both Taiwan and Australia schools, NEST was appraised as one of 10 good educational service companies by Minister of Education in 2006.
Jasons Market Place: The ANZCham Taiwan Australia Business Excellence Award
Jasons Market Place was established in Taiwan in 2003 and has six stores. Jasons carries a wide range of Australian products (over 1000 items) and 500 Australian varieties of wines with six stores across the island. According to Jasons, they have increased their import value of Australian food and beverage items from A$ 153,628 (2006) to A$ 495,886 (January to May 2007), over 300% growth, also as a result of more stores opened every year. Jasons is very active in promoting Australian image by conducting "Taste of Australia" event every year and really aim at bringing the best fresh, healthy produce from Australia.
Yen & Brothers Enterprise Co. Ltd: The ANZCham Taiwan New Zealand Business Excellence Award
Yen & Brothers was established in 1968 with an initial focus on frozen tiger prawn exports which over the past 30 years has expanded into a global seafood importing network and distribution sales channel. The company began importing New Zealand seafood in 1989 and established a branch office in New Zealand in 1998. Yen & Brothers currently buys New Zealand mussels, oysters, a variety of hoki fish products and snapper. Yens was also the first to promote New Zealand seafood in the major retail markets. In the period of 2006/2007 the company saw 20% growth compared with the previous year and with Taiwan’s growing tourism industry, Yens is likely to see continued growth. The company has its own distribution network and recent expansions include an online catering home delivery division and the opening of a sales office in China. The Taiwan New Zealand Business Excellence award acknowledges the company’s long and successful relationship with the New Zealand seafood industry.
Lion Travel Service Co. Ltd.: The ANZCham Taiwan Queensland Business Excellence Award
Lion travel has 35 substantial service branches all around the world spanning across America, Oceania and Asia. With the unrestricted media of worldwide website , We provide ”one stop shopping, non stop service” to our comprehensive customers. There are estimated around 180,000 potential clients per day browsing our website. We are also playing vigorous role on numerous creative travel series workshops, participating Taipei International Travel Fair and incorporating various well-known Taiwan media to uphold Taiwan market to travel to Australia and Queensland. At this moment, we have incentive group from Nan-shan insurance company which total number of participants is more than 4000 on touring in Australia.
