Colin Offord sound sculpture “THE VESSEL” to feature at the Austronesian International Arts Award in Taitung

Australian artist and musician Colin Offord has built a sound sculpture called THE VESSEL. THE VESSEL will feature at the Austronesian International Arts Award at Taitung Arts Museum until the end of August (open daily from 9-5pm except Mondays).

THE VESSEL is developed from the basic forms of zithers – a traditional stringed instrument - found throughout Austronesian and Chinese cultures, and inspired by the epic journeys of Austronesian travellers throughout the Pacific Ocean in their canoes and outriggers. THE VESSEL will be capable of all kinds of original sounds and Colin will be creating new music tailored specifically to its capabilities.

Through a lifetime of artistic exploration, collaborations and travel, Colin Offord has developed an international art form with a distinctly Australasian character. A synthesis of music, visual art and performance that embrace western experimentalism, folk music, improvisation, east Asian, and Aboriginal influences.
Colin has performed throughout Australia, Europe, North America, South East Asian, Japan, Taiwan, South Africa and the South Pacific.
