On 18 May, Representative Kevin Magee presented two study trips to Australia to the winners of the Rotary Club of Taipei’s 2013 English Speech Contest. Participants delivered a prepared speech on one of three topics, before being shortlisted to eight finalists. The finalists delivered a three minute improvised speech in response to a short monologue video about “the lost generation”.

First place winner Alexandra Yang (楊舒閔), from Kaohsiung, was awarded the opportunity to study at Australian National University in Canberra for a seven-week course of English study with full scholarship, round-trip airfare and home stay accommodation. “It feels like a dream. I can't believe I'm going to Australia,” she told media.
